FAQs
What is ABA Therapy?
ABA, which stands for Applied Behavior Analysis, is a proven way to understand how behavior works and how it's influenced by the things around us. We use this knowledge to apply helpful techniques that can make good changes in a person's behavior.
Who are RBT and BCBA?
RBT (Registered Behavior Technician): An RBT is a therapist who practices ABA under the close supervision of a BCBA. They directly implement the therapeutic strategies designed by the BCBA.
BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst): A BCBA is a professional trained in developing and supervising behavior analytic programs, in addition to providing guidance and coaching to caregivers.
How long does the assessment process take?
The length of the assessment can vary based on the individual needs of the child, but generally, it may take a few days to two weeks. This process allows us to gather essential data to tailor our approach effectively and then insurance will process the request, which can add approximately two weeks to the process.
How often will my child receive ABA therapy?
The frequency of ABA therapy sessions at Kith&Kin ABA is tailored to each child's unique needs, guided by research-based recommendations. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) conduct thorough assessments to determine the optimal number of hours, ensuring the most effective and individualized care plan for your child.
What outcomes can I expect from ABA therapy?
While results vary, many parents report significant improvements in communication, social skills, and reduced challenging situations. The goal is to enhance the quality of life and independence for the individual.
How long will my child need ABA therapy?
ABA duration varies, with more intensive hours in the first year, gradually decreasing after. Regular assessments guide the timeline. Our aim? To work ourselves out of a job, as ABA isn't a long-term solution. We're here for your child's progress and independence!
To what extent should I actively participate in my child's ABA therapy?
Count on being part of coaching sessions every week. The number of caregiver training hours may differ for each family, but the most successful outcomes happen when families actively participate in these sessions. Your involvement is important for making it all work.
If sessions are happening in my home, do I have to be involved in every single one?
Nope! You’re always welcome to watch, join in, or ask questions. Think of it as an open invitation, not a mandatory meeting. But if you’d rather use this time to catch up on chores (or at least pretend to), spend quality time with your other kids, or finally enjoy a hot cup of coffee before it turns into iced coffee (again), go for it! The therapist has things covered.
